After two years of working in the Risk Advisory practice of a global consulting firm, it was time to embrace a new challenge.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Why_Pre-MBA_Internship\"><\/span>Why Pre-MBA Internship?<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Given, I wouldn\u2019t have the opportunity to pack an internship during a one-year program, a pre-MBA internship fit the bill perfectly. It would allow me to be an insider to the coveted start-up ecosystem and the Fintech industry, both of which I had been following closely from the outside.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Most importantly, it would help me answer one question; whether I am a good fit and if I\u2019d enjoy similar roles in the future.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Coming_Across_The_Opportunity\"><\/span>Coming Across The Opportunity<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>I came across many opportunities while searching on professional platforms and ISB networks. However, Decentro stood out to me for various reasons. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>At the outset, their product suite was intriguing. From <a href=\"https:\/\/decentro.tech\/products\/accounts\/\">banking accounts<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/decentro.tech\/products\/kyc-onboarding\/\">automated KYC verification<\/a> &amp; onboarding, to <a href=\"https:\/\/decentro.tech\/products\/payments\/\">digital payments<\/a>, Decentro is a full-stack <a href=\"https:\/\/decentro.tech\/blog\/why-your-company-should-start-looking-at-banking-apis\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">banking API<\/a> platform for financial integrations. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Most strikingly, they solve a long-standing infrastructural problem by becoming a layer between banks and businesses. Consequently, this <a href=\"https:\/\/decentro.tech\/\">banking API platform<\/a> reduces the <strong>integration timelines by 10X<\/strong>, all at a fraction of the cost. Essentially, they are a Banking as a Service (BaaS) Platform for South Asia and are active enablers of rising fintech waves such as <a href=\"https:\/\/decentro.tech\/blog\/what-no-one-will-tell-you-about-upi-payment-links-payment-gateways\/\">UPI Payments<\/a> &amp; <a href=\"https:\/\/decentro.tech\/blog\/generating-new-revenue-streams-with-embedded-finance-banking\/\">Embedded Banking<\/a>.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As exciting as the work would be at Decentro, coming from a non-engineering background, it seemed intimidating at first. However, a conversation with <a href=\"https:\/\/in.linkedin.com\/in\/pratikdaudkhane\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Pratik<\/a>, our Co-founder &amp; an ex-VC, was enough to alleviate all my apprehensions. After a quick interview process, I joined Decentro as the first intern on the business side.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Pratik helped me get up to speed in the week leading up to my joining. In fact, he even went beyond his mandate by helping me navigate the tricky housing situation as I moved to Bengaluru.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"The_Internship_Journey\"><\/span>The Internship Journey&nbsp;<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>My 16-week-long internship started with a goal-setting meeting with <a href=\"https:\/\/in.linkedin.com\/in\/rohit-taneja-69b30b13\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Rohit<\/a>, Founder &amp; CEO at Decentro. As I look back now from week 11, it has been a steep learning curve.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On the business side, I&#8217;m a part of business development- strategy, B2B selling, building collateral, and everything in between. And all of which have been outside the realm of my previous experience. While it has been challenging to transition from a structured big corporate to an ambiguous start-up environment, it has helped me grow.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>One of the most gratifying aspects of working with an early-stage start-up like Decentro has been seeing the impact of my contributions almost immediately. The highlight of my internship has been the opportunity to pitch to the C-Level on critical strategic decisions.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Working with passionate, fun, and hardworking colleagues who have always been willing to support me and lend a helping hand has been terrific. The camaraderie both in and out of the office has been refreshing. I am confident that the strong connections and mentorships I have forged here will stand the test of time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I am learning a lot about Fintech and the daily operations of a start-up, which has helped refine my long-term vision of being an entrepreneur.
